About us

We are a multidisciplinary team of specialists combining expertise in GIS, remote sensing, data analysis, hydrology, botany, climatology, and spatial planning. Through COOLCITY, we are developing a suite of tools that helps cities better understand their environment, identify challenges more accurately, and effectively plan actions related to urban greenery, water management, and resilience to climate change impacts.

The COOLCITY project is being developed under the LIFE Programme and is implemented by a consortium led by MGGP Aero. The consortium members are the University of Warsaw, the University of Łódź, Sieker, and the City of Wrocław. The development of the tools is supported by a Consultative Team representing cities from Poland and across Europe.

MGGP Aero

Project Leader

The project leader is MGGP Aero, bringing the experience of a business entity in implementing innovative environmental projects. The company specializes in acquiring high-quality Earth imagery from airborne and satellite levels, and analyzing data using machine learning to transform images into information and knowledge about the state of urban nature.

Applying an innovative approach and modern technologies, MGGP Aero offers solutions in the climate change adaptation market that effectively support decision-making processes in the area of adaptation using nature-based solutions, day-to-day management of BGI, and monitoring the effects of adaptation measures taken.

Wrocław City Hall

Demonstration city

The project is implemented by the Department of Climate and Energy in cooperation with the Municipal Greenery Board. The Department coordinates activities related to the development of blue-green infrastructure, stormwater management, and biodiversity conservation. The Municipal Greenery Board is responsible for the maintenance, protection, and development of urban green spaces and trees. In the COOLCITY project, Wrocław serves as a demonstration city where nature-based solutions (NBS) will be implemented and tested to support climate change adaptation and improve the quality of urban spaces.

University of Łódź

UNESCO Chair on Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology

The University of Łódź is represented by the UNESCO Chair of Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology, operating within the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection. For more than 40 years, the Chair has specialized in the research and management of aquatic ecosystems based on scientific knowledge and innovation. In recent years, it has implemented numerous projects focused on the deployment of nature-based solutions (NBS) and climate change adaptation. Within the LIFECOOLCITY project, it contributes expert knowledge on urban climate change adaptation and supports the design and implementation of nature-based solutions.

University of Warsaw

Faculty of Economic Sciences

The University of Warsaw is the largest university in Poland, with more than 35,000 students. In the LIFECOOLCITY project, it is represented by the Warsaw Ecological Economics Center, operating within the Faculty of Economic Sciences. The Center conducts interdisciplinary research on the natural environment and its contribution to human well-being. Within the project, it provides expert knowledge in the valuation of ecosystem services and the assessment of the socio-economic benefits of climate adaptation measures, supporting the planning and implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS).

Ingenieurgesellschaft Prof. Dr. Sieker mbH

Engineering office

Ingenieurgesellschaft Prof. Dr. Sieker mbH (IPS) is a German engineering office based in Hoppegarten near Berlin, one of the leaders in sustainable rainwater management and water resources management. The company specializes in planning and consulting, combining engineering practice with research and development activities. It creates innovative solutions and software supporting cities in adapting to climate change.
