COOLCITY View

An interactive map service and a detailed report, created on demand, based on current satellite data and expert analyses. Ordered cyclically, it will provide knowledge about the effects of the adaptation actions taken.

Inventory

Inventory

The inventory is based on satellite data and aerial laser scanning (LiDAR). We use machine learning methods to create maps.

As part of CC View, the following are provided:

  • land cover map
  • tree density map
  • vegetation trend map
  • vegetation vigor map
  • surface sealing map
  • endorheic basins map
  • surface temperature map
  • overheating susceptibility map
  • ground radiation properties map

Valorization

Valorization

Spatial indexesare used for the valorization of the city in terms of five adaptation challenges: suface permeability, vegetation state, biodiversity, water conditions, and thermal conditions, and an integrated Cool City Index.

The service provides 23 spatial indexes. These include, among others, the degree of surface sealing, vegetation cover, ecological corridor connection, water retention, or urban surface heat island.

All indexes are calculated for a constant spatial unit, which is a hexagon with an area of 1.5 ha.

Recommendations

Recommendations

The diagnosis is presented in both hexagonal and administrative units. This allows for an independent analysis of the adaptive potential of the entire city or selected areas.

As a result of the analysis of the city space, we develop recommendations in three categories:

  • PROTECTION - is the indication of places where urban areas are most valuable and have the highest adaptive potential to climate change
  • INTRODUCTION - is the indication of places that should be rebuilt first, creating new areas of blue-green infrastructure
  • RECONSTRUCTION - is the indication of places where blue-green infrastructure already exists but has a low adaptive potential and needs to be rebuilt

Trend Analysis

Trend Analysis

Thanks to satellite data, we assess several years of changes in urban greenery.

For this purpose, we use a vegetation trend map, which indicates which areas have been deprived of vegetation or where it is dying, and where a positive trend of changes in vegetation vigor is observed. Based on this, monitoring indicators are calculated. This is a useful tool for cities to assess the situation not only in obvious places such as new urban investments but also on private land.

Expert Report

Expert Report

CoolCity View is not only maps but also an expert report. In it, we present a synthesis of the diagnosis of the city's environment state along with our recommendations for taking adaptation actions. It is the basis for creating further strategic or planning documents for the city.

The report includes, among others, the following issues:

  • city areas with the highest exposure of residents to high temperatures
  • city areas with the potential to supply blue-green infrastructure with rainwater
  • areas where there may be a water deficit for blue-green infrastructure
  • areas with the highest Biodiversity in the city
